Brideshead Revisited

So this book was one chosen by my book club. I don't think any of us were aware that it's a "Catholic novel." Some had seen the movie but if you watch the YouTube link I'm about to show you you'll see why that's useless and they didn't know. We haven't met yet so I don't know if they know now.  Anyway, I'm about 80% done with the book but even before I started it I was taking notes and saving links, because I went to YouTube looking for an audio version (and they did have several versions but, in the end, I didn't use any - although I bet Jeremy Irons voice is dreamy and I may have to do that one day - because I got so excited about this video I just wanted to lap it up with my own eyes) and instead this is what I found:

So you can see how absolutely thrilled I was for the opportunity to read this great novel and share my faith, along with my thoughts on the book, with my group!  And I took Father Lauder's advice and before I began the book I read Bishop Barron's article on it. Which you can find here.

How I long for the True, Good, and Beautiful! I always long for it but this introduction to the book made super excited to get started! I also plan to watch the miniseries he recommended as soon as I'm finished - it's already in my watchlist on Prime! Anyone who knows me knows I struggle with watching a film version of any book I've read and loved (especially loved!) without knowing if it's going to botch the book or not. Because in 99.9% of cases it is botched and good. Well, I think I will trust Father Lauder on this, he sounds like he knows what he is talking about.

At any rate I have certainly made other notes on the book since this, but I will try to post in the same manner these things came to me, and this is all I knew before I had started the book. So I will have to do another post about the other things when I am done.

P.S. I also need to watch other episodes of this YouTube series. My goodness YouTube is a rabbit hole from which one might never come up! I will have to blog about these later if I ever get to them.
