Hello, welcome.
Often while I am reading I stop to look something up - a word, a book or piece of art mentioned, a place, a type of clothing - whatever it is, and I will save a link or make a note. I email these things to myself. I bookmark them. I screenshot them. And there they stay, scattered across the internet, in the bowels of my laptop, taking up room on my phone. Once I put one into a note on Facebook - and then I deactivated my Facebook account. I'm not orderly. My shelf life is varied but it's not tidy. All of these "tidbits" I save thinking that some day I will have time to sit down and write my thoughts about the books that inspired the search. The thoughts that the tidbits themselves inspired. But I never do. I don't even really sit down and give myself time to have any thoughts about any of it. I am not sure that this blog will become that place either. But I do hope to, at the very least, catalog the tidbits themselves here. And maybe keep some record of what I'm reading.
When I was a young woman in college my favorite thing, what I spent nearly all my time doing, was to sit with friends, drinking coffee - or maybe beer/wine/whiskey - smoking and discussing great literature. History. Works of art. I haven't had time for that in over twenty years - and I don't even smoke anymore! Not even sure I know how to do it anymore. I have a book club. I love my book club. But, again, we have no time. We do try to discuss the books but we never go deep. We only have two hours and we also haven't seen each other in at least a month - sometimes more - and there is a lot of catching up to do. Age and responsibility do that to you. So I don't even know if I have that skill. I still love to hear greater minds than mine talk about a book. Sometimes I go to YouTube and look for that. But maybe, by at least keeping all my tidbits in one place, I will eventually cultivate that ability again? I don't know. Hope springs eternal.
